TPM 2.0 Driver Issues in Windows 7 and 10
Understanding the Problem
When attempting to recover the operating system from Microsoft Windows 8 or 10 to Windows 7, you may encounter issues with TPM 2.0 devices. Unfortunately, there is no W7 32-bit driver for these devices. However, if you switch to W7 64-bit, you can install a specific hotfix that will address the issue.
Hotfix Availability
The hotfix in question is only available for W7 64-bit systems. There are no standalone drivers for the TPM 2.0 device.
Alternative Solution for W10
If you are running W10 21H1, you may be able to resolve the issue without a hotfix. Go to Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Device security. Under Security processor, select Security processor details. Then, select Security processor troubleshooting and follow the on-screen instructions.
TPM 2.0 Device Types
There are two types of TPM 2.0 devices: * **fTPM (firmware TPM):** Contact the laptop manufacturer to obtain the necessary driver. * **dTPM (discrete TPM):** You may need to purchase and install a physical TPM module for this type of device.
